Ruth Klein Turns 100 on July 13, 2006

Ruth Klein was born in Indianapolis, Indiana on Friday, July 13, 1906. Her parents moved to LaGrange, Illinois when she was 10 years old. She joined the La Grange First Presbyterian Church at the age of 12 and is now the longest living member. She attended Ogden Elementary School, Lyons Township High School, went to New Jersey College for Women in New Brunswick, NJ for two years, and then attended the former Pestalozzi Froebel Teacher’s College in Chicago where she graduated in 1928. She taught kindergarten in Hammond, Indiana for 10 years.

In 1933 she visited a sister at a CCC camp in Germfask, Michigan and met a handsome instructor, Rupert Klein. They fell in love, but Rupe wouldn't marry until he paid off his college bills. They married in 1938. The Kleins built a home in La Grange in 1942 and lived there until 1996, when they moved into an apartment at Plymouth Place in La Grange Park. Mr. Klein died in 2001. They were married 62 years.
Ruth is a whiz at doing daily crossword puzzles, enjoys watching Jeopardy and playing solitaire on the computer. She emails and instant messages family every day to keep in touch. Her outlook on life is always positive.

She has two children, Linda Hall of Bettendorf, Iowa and Jeff Klein of Boise, Idaho. Ruth has 5 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
